This week we have Daylin Eaton joining us from the realm of the fantastical! Please give him a warm welcome!
What would your bio say?
I am twenty-one years old and I live in Hayward, California. I have been writing since I was eight years old and have been in love with fantasy all my life, particularly superheroes and young heroes/heroines.
When did you start writing and why?
I started writing when I was eight years old. My friend was into reading and writing a lot of fantasy at the time as so I basically followed suit and tried to develop my own style of fantasy.
If you are a parent how does being a parent affect your writing and writing habits? Or does it?
I am not a parent, but I would imagine having a child would always come before your writing.
Who is your favorite author and why?
J.K. Rowling is my favorite author. I have been a huge Harry Potter fan since I was a kid. Rowling opened up a whole new world for me and really got me to start reading.
What do you hope to accomplish with your writing?
I hope to one day be in the ranks of J.K. Rowling, Stephenie Meyer, Christopher Paolini, Rick Riordan, Richelle Mead, Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl and other great fantasy authors I love.
I self published my book in February of 2011 because at the time I had an opportunity to do it and I wasn’t having any luck finding an agent.
Talk about your journey into the wide world of publishing.
The first self publishing offer I got would have cost me eleven thousand dollars. I simply did not have the money. But a few years later I got a call from another self publishing company and they presented me with a great offer which was a little over three thousand dollars. About six months later I held my self published book in my hands. Currently, I am seeking an agent to help me publish my book commercially.
Tell us about your book
My book is called The Chronicles of Tyson Jenkins: the Witch Sisters. It is about a boy (the titular character) who lives in a world where everyone in it has a power such as laser vision or super strength or even energy absorption. Tyson is able to change into animals at will. One day before school, he learns that a group of witches are plotting to steal the Pendant of Power, which has the ability to take and give powers, and he becomes adamant about stopping them and bringing them to justice.
What inspired you to write these books (or in this genre)?
Harry Potter had a great influence on me writing the book. At the time I wanted to write something as good and epic as Harry Potter so I tried to come up with a story that people might love just as much some day. As far as writing fantasy, I have been in love with the genre all my life. It’s all I can really read.
Tell us why we should love or hate your main character?
I love my main character (Tyson) because he is very passionate about doing what he thinks is right and fair and the fact that he cares deeply about the wellbeing of people and animals.
